Rocamadour is a commune in the Lot departement in south-western France.
Rocamadour has attracted visitors for its setting in a gorge above a tributary of the River Dordogne, and especially for its historical monuments and its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which for centuries has attracted pilgrims from every country, among them kings, bishops, and nobles.

In this painting, the artist does a beautiful job portraying a French street that seems to shimmer from moisture of a morning rainfall. The hill in the distance seems to still be embraced by a few clouds, even with the warmth of the sun showing on the other side of the painting, trying to chase them away. The choice to use both warm and cool colors throughout the painting further establishes the conflict between the warmth of the sun and the coolness from the previous rainfall.
The artist's skill in this media shows through by the utilization of different techniques to emphasize the different segments of the painting. For me, in particular I enjoy the way the reflections blend in to the street and walkway, to the point where their presence is so natural, that one may miss it.
